The Peter Gross Cup Goes To…

14 Feb

Thursday, February 13th 2014.

Its what we’ve all been waiting for. Who will be the first to finally hoist the Peter Gross Cup?

Game 1- Ceramics vs. AVA

Ceramics and AVA faced off today at noon. The battle was hard fought on both sides and the outcome was never certain. For every point scored by one, the other team matched it. A fast paced game came to an end with Ceramics gaining and sustaining a lead just long enough to hold off AVA before the whistle. Final score was 5-4 for Ceramics. A quiet team, Ceramics proved to be a dark horse in this tournament. Congratulations to Ceramics on taking the 3rd place prize!

Game 2- Photo vs. Metals

The final game. The home stretch. A fight for the Peter Gross Cup. After defending against multiple teams this week it came down to Photography and Metals to square off against each other. With Bridgette Clavette charging against Peter Gross and his army of photographers the game was one legends are made of. The defence on both sides was strong and put to the test. Despite multiple shots on each net not a goal was scored by either team during the 20 minutes of play.To decide the winner the teams played overtime and the first team to score would be the victor. Metals finally got through the brick wall that was Drew Gilbert. With a resounding cheer, the Metal Studio flooded onto the parking lot to celebrate with their teammates.

Neither studio has been reached for MVP nominations.

Congratulations to the Metal Studio on their win! Congratulations to our second and third place winners, Photography and Ceramics.

Peter Gross Ball Hockey Tournament Results- Day 3

14 Feb

Wednesday, February 12th 2014.

Game 1- Photo vs. Ceramics

Photo continued their quest for the cup, named after their fearless leader Peter Gross, by beating the Ceramics studio on Wednesday afternoon.  However, Ceramics did not go down quietly. The teams went back and fourth for a full 20 minutes with Photo holding them off long enough to be victorious. It was a great game for spectators. Photography will move onto the Finals, while Ceramics will advance to the 3rd place final.

Teams have not been reached for comment on MVPs at this time.

Game 2- AVA vs. Metals

Both AVA and Metals came in off of big wins in their previous games and brought with each of them a fierce competitive spirit. The game was fast paced and the goals piled up quickly for Metals. The action from this game drew the largest crowd out of all the matches. The final score was 6-1 for Metals who move on to the Finals. AVA will advance to the 3rd place final.

MVP for Metals was Spencer with 3 of the teams 5 goals. AVA could not be reached at this time, we will update.

Tomorrow we will see Metals vs. Photo at noon for Game 1, and AVA vs. Ceramics at 12:30 for Game 2.

One team will hoist the cup tomorrow at 1pm.

Peter Gross Ball Hockey Tournament Day 2- Results

12 Feb

Tuesday, February 11th 2014.

Another exciting day of ball hockey was seen yesterday. Two teams emerged as victors, but not without a good battle.

Game 1- Fashion vs. Ceramics

The team from the Fashion studio, being the only all female team in the tournament, was not expected to do well by many. Ceramics scored two goals early in the game to gain the upper hand. After a switch in the offensive and defensive positions on the Fashion end a goal was scored against Ceramics, unfortunately too late in the game to gain enough momentum to win. Ceramics came out on top with a score of 3-1 in their favour.

MVPs for this game were Veronique Roy for Fashion Design and Ceramics could not yet be reached for comment.

Game 2- AVA vs. FVA

Both AVA and FVA came to play hard yesterday. The teams had high energy on both sides and were focused on winning. FVA soon discovered they could not fend off the advances of the AVA team and after scoring their only point conceded defeat. With a landslise score of 5-1 AVA celebrated their victory.

Neither team could be reached for naming of the MVP. We will update when they have been reached.

Tomorrow we will see Photo vs. Ceramics at noon for Game 1, and AVA vs. Metals at 12:30 for Game 2

Peter Gross Ball Hockey Tournament – Day 1 Results

10 Feb

Monday, February 5th 2014.

Today began the Peter Gross Ball Hockey Tournament. Despite some initial hiccups we saw some great ball hockey action from all four teams!

Game 1- Textiles vs. Photo

We began the day uncertain if there would be a team for the Textiles Studio, but at the last moment they charged out with excellent spirit, AND matching jerseys! The game was fiercely played by both sides with Photography eventually taking the victory with a score of 2-0. Not to be counted out textiles fought a hard battle and gave Photo a challenge.

MVPs for this game were Courtney Eustace for Textiles and Kehinde Shaheed for Photo.

Game 2- Metals vs. Graphics/ Integrated

The Graphics/Integrated team was expected by many to be the victor of this match from their storied ball hockey rivalry with the Photography studio, but the Metals Studio came to to win. The game was intense with scoring going back and fourth for some time, but in the last 5 minutes two goals were made by Metal sealing the fate of Graphics/Integrated. The final score was 5-3 for the Metals Studio.

The MVPs for this game were Emily Petley for Metals and Dale McBride for Graphics/Integrated.

Tomorrow we will see Fashion vs. Ceramics at noon for Game 1, and AVA vs. FVA at 12:30 for Game 2.

News & Updates!

10 Feb

Hello everyone,

We’ve been busy here in the Student Association and are happy to share some news with you!

First up is a rather noticeable update to our Student Lounge! We now have a student refrigerator for storing our food during the school day. Rules and regulations are posted on the freezer door to cover any questions or concerns. We have updated the tea kettle to a model with an automatic shut off for extra safety, and there are now two available for faster accessibility. After taking a look at the state of the existing appliances we have also replaced the toaster and toaster oven. The request for extra plug in space has been handled by placing a power bar and outlet extender in the basket near the appliance area.

School clothing is coming soon! At our next General Assembly, Wednesday March 12th, 2014. We are going to have the supplier arranged and be holding a vote on the final logo designs and locations. We are still shopping between a few suppliers to bring us the most cost effective options for the details requested. Personalized clothing with grad year will also be an option.

Been eyeing grad rings from your university friends? We have a student from the Metal Studio who has designed a NBCCD Grad Ring. The Student Association will be working in co-operation with the Metal Studio to ad this new feature to everyone!

At a previous General Assembly it was announced that a second studio competition would be coming up after March Break. The prizes up for grabs are $500 for 1st Place, $300 for 2nd Place, $200 for 3rd Place. After consulting the students at the last General Assembly we have determined the tentative date to be the Friday March 14th, 2014 at 4:30pm.

The Peter Gross Ball Hockey Tournament has begun and we have seen some great action so far! Who will take the Peter Gross Cup for the first time ever? Expect to be updated via email, and find more info on our blog, Facebook page and Twitter. A chart will be available in the Student Lounge and on the main lobby tv as well!

Have a great week!
